THE WRAP – Xavier Gens is directing the genre movie, which reunites the producer and writers of “The Conjuring”

On the heels of a breakout turn in Matthew Vaughn’s hit spy movie “Kingsman: The Secret Service,” Sophie Cookson is in negotiations to star in Xavier Gens’ supernatural thriller “The Crucifixion,” TheWrap has learned.

The film is based on the true story of a priest who was convicted of murdering a nun after performing an exorcism on her. Cookson will play a young journalist investigating the bizarre case.

The movie reunites “The Conjuring” producer Peter Safran with sibling writers Chad and Carey Hayes. The trio are also producing the genre project, which is being financed by Lotus Entertainment.

Gens (“Hitman”) is directing “The Crucifixion,” which Lotus’ Jim Seibel is executive producing with Bill Johnson, D.J. Gugenheim and Ara Keshishian.

Cookson won the part of Roxy in “Kingsman” over many young actresses, and the film went on to gross more than $400 million worldwide. The British actress will soon be seen opposite Adrien Brody in Lee Tamahori’s “Emperor.”
