SCREENDAILY – Sophie Cookson After Kingsman, Sophie shot a part in Huntsman and will soon be seen in Lee Tamahori’s Emperor – playing the lead opposite Adrien Brody. She’s currently attached as the lead in Des Hamilton’s directorial debut I Feel Fine (replacing Stacy Martin) and Crucifixion, a supernatural thriller directed by Xavier Gens.
SUPERHEROHYPE – The Hollywood Reporter brings word that 20th Century Fox is tentatively planning an April 2016 start date for the previously-confirmed Kingsman sequel. Two points to note about this, however, are that star Taron Egerton is set to begin work on Lionsgate’s Robin Hood: Origins in February, which could conflict with the sequel’s start date (though the outlet notes it will all likely be worked out), and in addition, the script for the follow-up has yet to be completed.
Director Matthew Vaughn is currently penning a draft for the Kingsman sequel, which he previously revealed will feature an American version of the British Kingsman agency and that he might return to direct the sequel despite having never done so with his previous films.
Based upon the 2012 Icon Comics miniseries by Dave Gibbons and Mark Millar, Kingsman: The Secret Service tells the story of a super-secret spy organization that recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into the agency’s ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius.
The film stars Academy Award winners Colin Firth and Michael Caine alongside Academy Award nominee Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Strong and newcomers Taron Egerton, Sofia Boutella and Sophie Cookson. Scripted by Vaughn and Jane Goldman, Kingsman: The Secret Service grossed over $412 million at the global box office.
FILM MUSIC REPORTER – Abel Korzeniowski has signed on to score the upcoming historical action adventure Emperor. The film is directed by Lee Tamahori (Die Another Day, The Edge, Next, Along Came a Spider) and stars Adrien Brody, Sophie Cookson, Paz Vega, Eddie Marsan, Gotz Otto, Bill Skarsgard, Thomas Kretschmann, Oliver Platt and Rutger Hauer. The movie centers on the brilliant strategist Emperor Charles V, trying to hold together a fragmented Empire, in a 16th century world of wealth, debauchery, violent retaliations, sex, manipulation and treason. Michael Thomas (The Devil’s Double, Ladyhawke, Backbeat) and Jeffrey Hatcher (The Duchess) have written the screenplay. Paul Breuls (Killing Season, Third Person), Michael John Fedun and Catherine Vandeleene (The Lovers, The Devil’s Double) are producing the project. Rick McCallum (Star Wars) serves as an executive producer. Emperor is currently in post-production. No release date has been announced yet.
Korzeniowski (A Single Man, Romeo & Juliet, W.E.) who recently received his first Emmy Award nomination for Showtime’s Penny Dreadful is also set to return to score the show’s third season, which will premiere next year.
